What is bronchitis?

Bronchitis is a respiratory condition characterized by inflammation of the bronchial tubes, which are the air passages that carry air to and from the lungs. There are two main types of bronchitis: acute and chronic. Acute bronchitis is usually caused by viral infections, such as the common cold or flu, although bacterial infections can also be a cause. It often develops following an upper respiratory tract infection and is typically self-limiting, resolving within a few weeks with rest and supportive care.Symptoms of acute bronchitis include coughing, which may produce mucus or phlegm, chest discomfort or tightness, fatigue, mild fever, and sometimes shortness of breath. While the cough can be persistent and bothersome, it usually improves over time without specific medical treatment. However, in some cases, especially if symptoms are severe or if there are underlying health conditions, medical intervention may be necessary to manage symptoms and prevent complications.Chronic bronchiti
